Wahoo Fitness Blue HR & Running...

Today is the day that changes tomorrow... Maybe yes? Maybe no? All I can say is that today is August 7th, 2012 and my heart rate is smooth. Just ran across the parking lot and back and my burn rate shot up from 150 calories/hour up to 780 calories/hour. About two months ago I purchased or rather made in investment for future health; via a purchase of one Bluetooth heart-rate monitor. After months of research, asking co-workers, friends, reading online articles, shopping online and in brick & mortar stores I made the choice. My purchase was... wahoo fitness BLUEHR (Bluetooth 4.0 Heart Rate Monitor).

Back in 2004 I began using the Garmin Forerunner smart watch series to track my fitness via GPS. About every two or three years I would sell the old model and upgrade. Well, over the past two years the GPS sensors installed within most smartphones increased in quality, and accuracy. Ergo, why not combine the two? What I really missed with using my cell phone, an Apple iPhone 4s, instead of a watch was the heart rate, social media connections, and ease Garmin provided to synchronize activities and provide weekly, monthly, and annual reports. Enters the app and company named, STRAVA. There are so, so, so, almost too many apps for running, cycling, and fitness in both the Android Market (Google Play) and within the Apple App Store. However, there are a good handful of good ones, even great ones. I feel, and other athletes nearby, that STRAVA has just about all the necessary features.

Okay, honestly, this is just an app, right? Well, to someone that places too much importance upon fitness, running, walking, cycling, jogging, hiking, and forward movement all based upon one's heart rate - nope! An app is an instrument in which an athlete monitors their progress. Without progress an athlete is unable to accurately train for races, events, and life. I feel life is a never-ended race; an iron-man race. This race in life should be enjoyed each and every day. I use running and other activities to prepare for the unknown events later on in my "life race". Who knows what this years shall bring or even the next decade? For now, I use the STRAVA app combined with the wahoo fitness app (voice coached and integration with Daily Mile, Garmin Connect, email, and many others).

So... if you are interested in heart rate training, you have a smartphone and use any of the following apps. I recommend the wahoo fitness BLUE HR.
